What Is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy has at its foundation the laws of nature. Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of Osteopathy, realized that all things in nature were elements of a greater whole and it was the dynamic and integral functioning of the whole that brought health and vitality to each of its parts. Dr. Still’s observations on how living systems in the natural world restored balance and harmony were applied to the human body. Today, Manual Osteopathy is a holistic treatment modality that gently and effectively addresses the totality of the client, no matter what stage they are at on their human journey. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners assess all body systems, including the physical, emotional and spiritual, searching for the root cause that is preventing the fullest expression of the health and vitality that inherently resides within us.

For me, Osteopathy has transcended being just a therapeutic approach to become my way of life. Any obstacle I encounter, whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual, I always return to Gaia and ask her what she would do. In so doing, I am able to meet clients in a way that validates their whole being and holistically strives to restore a healthy balance by applying the innate and dynamic healing powers of nature.

Osteopathy is not yet a regulated profession in Canada. With public education and safety as a primary concern, each province has created an association to uphold a standard of osteopathic education. I am proud to be a member of OsteopathyBC. Every member of OsteopathyBC has met the World Health Organization benchmark for osteopathic education.
